Espadrilles - Size - 43

Espadrilles are lightweight slip-on shoes defined by a sole made from jute fibre. The upper may be made from canvas, suede or smooth leather. Modern styles usually include a rubber layer underneath the jute sole to improve grip and durability.

Espadrilles should fit securely across the instep without excessive heel movement. Canvas and soft leather will adapt slightly with wear, so an unnecessarily loose size should be avoided. The toes should still have enough room and the shoes should not feel painfully tight.

Espadrilles are usually worn without visible socks. For hygiene and comfort, no-show socks are recommended, especially when the shoes are worn for longer periods. Traditional long socks generally do not suit their relaxed summer character.

Espadrilles work well with linen and cotton trousers, chinos, shorts, polo shirts and summer shirts. Leather styles can also be worn with an unstructured jacket or a relaxed summer suit. They are not suitable for formal tailoring or evening dress codes.

Light splashes are usually not a problem, but jute is not designed for prolonged exposure to water. Heavy rain or soaking may cause the sole to deform, harden or weaken. Espadrilles are therefore best suited to dry summer weather.

Clean canvas uppers with a soft brush or a slightly damp cloth. Leather styles should be treated with a product suitable for the specific type of leather. Do not soak the jute sole or wash espadrilles in a washing machine. Allow them to dry naturally away from direct heat.
